LIGNA 2025: automation and tool life dominate edge banding launches
HOMAG, Felder and OAV led edge banding launches at LIGNA 2025, with automatic tool change, servo positioning and integrated glue-line monitoring as the recurring themes.
LIGNA 2025, held in Hannover, was the clearest recent snapshot of where edge banding technology is heading. HOMAG, Felder and OAV were among the most visible exhibitors in the segment.
Three themes recurred across launches. First, automatic tool change and servo-controlled positioning, reducing setup time between batches. Second, integrated glue-line and edge-quality monitoring, so defects are flagged during production rather than at final inspection. Third, energy monitoring per machine, as factories face rising electricity costs and increasingly report energy consumption per panel.
The commercial context is a market estimated at USD 1,792.59 million in 2025 and projected to reach USD 2,488.90 million by 2032 at a CAGR of 4.8%, with automatic edge banders alone worth USD 1,222.23 million.
For mid-sized furniture factories, the practical implication is that the gap between entry-level and higher-spec automatic edge banders is widening. Buyers should specify the changeover time and tool-life targets they actually need rather than accepting a generic specification sheet.
Trade-show launches typically reach volume availability 6–12 months later, so machines shown at LIGNA 2025 entered commercial delivery in late 2025 and 2026.
